St. John Lutheran Church has been inviting people to worship since it began in 1854. First, the German settlers were the ones who began the church and the Lutheran school with the intent to worship God and educate children. Through the years although times have changed, the people of today's congregation and the greater Heights community continue to come together to grow, worship and praise. As we embark on the beginning of the 164th year of St. John Lutheran Church, the joy of the Lord is still our strength! Come! Join in giving praise and thanks to God for all that He does in your life. See what St. John has to offer you, your children, your family. God is good . . .all the time!
For all Your goodness Lord, we give
Join us in giving thanks to God for all the blessings that He gives.
Thanksgiving Day worship, 10 a.m.
We invite you to give thanks with our St. John church family.
So, what's next? The church will continue! Renewed, revived and pray
God's guidance as we continue to serve God and His people at St. John and in Garfield Heights.
There are a lot of opportunities to worship, for Bible Study, for children and youth to grow, learn, have recreation and family times! Come, join the family of God in this place, as we celebrate being His people!
We do have hope! Recently, conversation has begun to share a pastor with another congregation in the greater Cleveland area. When at times things seem to be bleak with no end to the wandering road in life, God intervenes! Now it is our prayer that St. John and the other congregation fervently pray for God's wisdom and direction to see where He is leading us as separate congregations. We also pray God's guidance on the pastor and both congregations as we continue to seek His will as we move forward to praise Him, grow in His grace and serve God and His people in our respective communities.
St. John has a women's group which is a part of a national group called Lutheran Women's Missionary League or LWML. Their mission statement is to assist each woman of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod to affirm her relationship to the Triune God so that she is enabled to use her gifts in ministry to the people of the world.
This group meets the second Tuesday 8 months of the year at 9:30 a.m. Along with devotions, refreshments and a business meeting, we have a program centered on helping others or enriching our own lives through God's Word. We have collected items that are passed out to the homeless., made lap robes to give to institutions for patient or shut-in use, baked cookies to give to 'first responders' on 9/11 and donate our offerings combined with other offerings from all over the country that are used on a very large scale to help others in need and other ministries that reach out with the love of God!
Come! Join our small, but energizing group and enrich your own life as well.
CHRISTMAS CAMP is an afternoon filled with activities to help children learn and focus on Jesus' birth. Christmas Caroling at 5 p.m. While at 'camp', the children will make cookies, candy, crafts, sing, hear the story
This year Christmas Camp will be Sunday, December 16, 1:30 p.m. until 5:00. Our day will end with Family of Jesus' birthday and have refreshments.
It is helpful for children to be pre-registered so that enough of everything is on hand. You can register by calling or e-mailing the church office. If possible for your family to make a $10 donation to help defray costs, it would be very much appreciated.
We hope to celebrate Christmas with your children and your family at this year's Christmas Camp!
Annual Christmas Vespers at Valparaiso University
Join our small group of travelers as we head west to Valparaiso University to join in the celebration of our Savior's birth. The Vespers are on Friday evening, December 7. We will leave from St. John early on that day and return late evening on Saturday December 8. Along the way, we'll eat, shop and possibly do some wine-tasting. The cost is approximately $100 which covers a shared hotel room, gas, tolls, etc.
If you'd like to come along or learn more, contact St. John by calling the church office or by sending an e-mail.
His Kidz children's ministry meets every Monday (except major holidays) from 6 - 7:30 p.m. ALL children ages 3 (potty trained, please) and older are very welcome to attend!
Older children are great helpers for our littler Kidz!
Each evening, the children are given supper before being engaged in a learning from the Bible, singing songs, playing games or making a craft.
The first meeting of His Kidz will be Monday, September 10 beginning at 6 p.m.
